Everything You Need to Know Before Your First BOTOX® Treatment

As we age, many individuals may start to notice facial wrinkles that linger for much longer than we prefer. Dynamic wrinkles, such as Crow’s feet, occur after many years of facial expression. If you are considering BOTOX for the first time to diminish dynamic wrinkles, our team at Infinite Wellness & Aesthetics can walk you through the steps. We work with men and women throughout Maine and the surrounding areas to smooth facial wrinkles and attain smooth, beautiful complexions.

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is a filtered strain derived from botulinum toxin A that is used for medical and cosmetic purposes. At Infinite Wellness & Aesthetics, BOTOX is used as a wrinkle relaxer to diminish dynamic wrinkles on the face. One of our team members injects BOTOX directly into the muscle tissues responsible for facial expressions to temporarily slow or halt muscle contractions. This allows the overlying skin time to heal for a smoother complexion.

What are the benefits of BOTOX treatments?

BOTOX treatments can be used to reduce any of the following and more:

  • Frown lines

  • Crow’s feet

  • Horizontal forehead creases

  • Hyper hidrosis (excessive sweating)

Younger patients who wish to delay the onset of dynamic wrinkles can also utilize BOTOX cosmetic treatments as a preventive measure. Our team will design a customized treatment plan based on our professional recommendations and your personal cosmetic goals.

Am I an ideal candidate for BOTOX?

Individuals are viable candidates for BOTOX treatments if they:

  • Have realistic expectations

  • Are in good, general health

  • Have moderate to severe facial wrinkles that can be resolved with BOTOX

  • Are seeking nonsurgical methods to improve their complexion

Our team will assess your personal and medical histories to determine if you can safely participate in BOTOX treatments.

What is the treatment process like?

BOTOX injections are administered within the comforts of one of our private treatment rooms and can take as little as 15 minutes to complete. Each treatment site is properly sanitized prior to injection. Patients may feel a mild pinch with each injection. Mild redness may be present, and should subside within an hour or two. Bruising is possible depending on the patient and area injected.

Is there any downtime after BOTOX treatments?

BOTOX treatments require no downtime, and patients can typically resume most of their normal daily activities after treatment. Our team will send instructions home to optimize your results during the first day or two, including avoiding:

  • Lying down for 6 hours post procedure

  • Lying face down for 24 hours

  • Rubbing or massaging your face for 48 hours

  • Exercise for 24 hours

  • Exposing your face to extreme temperatures

  • Drinking alcohol for 24 hours

  • Taking blood thinners

How many BOTOX injections should I receive?

Since BOTOX treatment plans are highly customized, the number of recommended treatments will vary by patient, but typically requires 3 – 4 sessions per year to maintain results.

How long will my BOTOX treatment results last?

Since BOTOX injections are designed to be temporary, patients should expect their results to last 3-4 months for wrinkle reduction, and 6 months for treatment of hyper hidrosis.

Can I combine BOTOX with other nonsurgical cosmetic treatments?

Patients frequently combine BOTOX injections with other cosmetic techniques to achieve their desired outcomes. Consult with our team about your available treatment options and to see if you are a candidate.
